There was a small surprise in Eltham where seventh ranked Wildcats (9-8) defeated their close opponent Knox Raiders (9-8) 66-61 on Saturday. Wildcats made 16-of-17 free shots (94.1 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Wildcats made 11 blocks. The best player for the winners was center Rebecca Pizzey (190-1999) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points, 15 rebounds and 6 blocks. American swingman Hailey Leidel (180-1997, college: UMass) chipped in 24 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). At the other side the best for losing team was forward Alicia Froling (190-1996, college: SMU) who recorded 28 points and 6 rebounds and Leah Santomaggio added 12 points and 4 assists respectively. Knox Raiders' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Wildcats maintains seventh position with 9-8 record, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Knox Raiders. Wildcats will meet Ballarat Miners (#18) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Knox Raiders will play against Tornadoes (#15) and hope to secure a win.
