Eighth-ranked Jets (4-13) made lots of trouble for leader Devils (17-0) in Sunbury on Saturday. The visitors from Werribee managed to secure only two-point victory 88-86. However their fans expected much easier game. Devils made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. Devils had a 20-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American guard Amanda Paschal (170-1996, college: Kentucky, agency: DC Sports) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists. Canadian forward Sarah Bennett (180, college: Toronto, agency: DC Sports) helped adding 18 points and 11 rebounds. Worth to mention Paschal played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Devils' coach Gerard Hillier used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side Swedish guard Ida Andersson (173-1996, college: Barry) responded with 23 points and 5 assists and Greek center Dimitra Gkizani (190-2000, college: RWC) scored 19 points and 9 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the seventeenth consecutive win for Devils. They maintain first place with 17-0 record. Loser Jets dropped to the seventh position with 13 games lost. They share it with Penrith P. and Inner WB. Devils will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Jets will play against Camberwell (#8) in Melbourne and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
