Regular Season Round 19: SC Phoenix - Mackay M. 93-100

There was a small surprise in Cotton Tree where fourteenth ranked Meteorettes (3-14) defeated their close opponent Sunshine CP (3-13) 100-93 on Saturday. Meteorettes made 23-of-30 free shots (76.7 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a great evening for American guard Davida Dale (180-1997, college: URI) who led her team to a victory scoring 20 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals. Her fellow American import center Brittany Reeves (196, college: Mercer) helped adding 18 points and 10 rebounds. At the losing side American forward Alex Wittinger (185-1997, college: Illinois) responded with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 14 rebounds (made all of her twelve free throws !!!) and New Zealand guard Kendell Heremaia (175-1999, college: Fordham) scored 27 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sunshine CP's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Despite that victory Meteorettes went down to fifteenth position due to points difference. Loser Sunshine CP dropped to the eighth place with 13 games lost. They share the position with Camberwell. Meteorettes will meet at home higher ranked Seahawks (#10) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sunshine CP will play against Salties in Darwin and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
