Very expected game in Wendouree where 18th ranked Ballarat Miners (3-16) were defeated by ninth ranked Wildcats (10-9) 91-87 on Sunday. Wildcats made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for American swingman Hailey Leidel (180-1997, college: UMass) who led her team to a victory scoring 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Louise Forsyth helped adding 22 points and 7 rebounds. At the losing side American guard Tayanna Jones (185-2000, college: Colorado) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 13 rebounds (made all of her nine free throws !!!) and the former international guard Abigail Wehrung (177-1995) scored 18 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Five Wildcats and four Ballarat Miners players scored in double figures. Wildcats moved-up to eighth place. Ballarat Miners lost their fifth game in a row. They dropped to the nineteenth position with 16 games lost. Wildcats will meet Lady Cobras (#12) in the next round. Ballarat Miners will play against Diamond Valley Eagles (#10) and hope to secure a win.
