Regular Season Round 20: Geelong LS - Ballarat M. 84-79
Date: July 8, 2023
No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Geelong Supercats (14-6) defeated at home 18th ranked Ballarat Miners (3-18) 84-79 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Geelong Supercats looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international guard Chantel Horvat (185-1998, college: UCLA) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 26 points and 15 rebounds and guard Sarah Elsworthy (171-1998) who added 20 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals during the contest. Five Geelong Supercats players scored in double figures. The former international guard Abigail Wehrung (177-1995) responded with 32 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and Swedish forward Emma Karamovic (184-1996, college: Southeastern) scored 25 points and 5 rebounds. Geelong Supercats maintains fifth position with 14-6 record. Ballarat Miners lost seventh consecutive game. They dropped to the nineteenth place with 18 games lost. Geelong Supercats will meet league's second-placed Falcons in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Ballarat Miners will play against the league's leader Lady Braves (#1) in Bendigo and hope to secure a win.
