Regular Season Round 32: Woodville W. - Sturt S. 96-85

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Sturt Sabres (12-6) against fifth ranked Woodville Warriors (11-7) on Sunday night. Visiting Sturt Sabres were defeated by Woodville Warriors in Flinders Park 96-85. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Sturt Sabres. Woodville Warriors forced 19 Sturt Sabres turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Jawan Stepney (192-1995, college: CWU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Riley Meldrum who added 23 points during the contest. Worth to mention Stepney played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Naturalized Italian forward Jacob Rigoni (198-1998, college: Quinnipiac) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 19 rebounds and American guard Jordan Forbes (193-1998, college: Salem) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Woodville Warriors maintains fifth position with 11-7 record. Loser Sturt Sabres keep the third place with six games lost. They share the position with S.Adelaide P.. Woodville Warriors will meet higher ranked South Adelaide Panthers (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Sturt Sabres will play against Eastern Mavericks in Mt. Barker and hope to secure a win.
