There was no surprise when 8th ranked Lightning (7-12) lost to second ranked Wanneroo (16-3) in Joondalup 74-79 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Wanneroo outrebounded Lightning 40-26 including 26 on the defensive glass. American players dominated the game. Forward Teige Morrell (191-1995, college: Nevada) nailed a double-double by scoring 27 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side and guard Robbi Ryan (175-1997, college: Arizona St.) accounted for 21 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Kylee Smith (180-1994, college: Belmont) came up with 18 points and 6 rebounds and forward Laci Hawthorne (183-1999, college: Utah St.) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Lightning in the defeat. Four Lightning players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Wanneroo. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Northside W. Lightning lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the ninth place with 12 games lost. Wanneroo will meet Hawks (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Lightning will play against Magic in Mandurah and hope to secure a win.
