Very predictable result when fourth ranked Flames (14-5) rolled over 11th ranked Giants (4-14) in Kalgoorlie 92-62 on Saturday. Flames outrebounded Giants 59-45 including 21 on the offensive glass. Guard Casey Samuels (182-1994) nailed 24 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side and American forward Mehryn Kraker (183-1994, college: Green Bay) accounted for 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Flames players scored in double figures. Flames' coach Tom Knowles felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international forward Darcee Garbin (188-1994) came up with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 13 rebounds and Kiriana Hawaikirangi added 17 points and 5 assists respectively for Giants in the defeat. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Flames. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Rockhampton C. Loser Giants dropped to the eighth position with 14 games lost. They share it with Eastern M. and Woodville W.. Flames will meet Senators (#5) in the next round. Giants will play against Redbacks in Northbridge and hope to secure a win.
