Very expected game in Loganholme where 7th ranked Brisbane Spartans (10-9) were defeated by second ranked Thunder (15-4) 87-78 on Saturday. Thunder made 26-of-30 free shots (86.7 percent) during the game, while Brisbane Spartans only scored six points from the stripe. They outrebounded Brisbane Spartans 47-35 including a 36-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was South Sudanese forward Majok Deng (205-1993, college: ULM) who had a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!) and 19 rebounds (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!). Guard Shaun Bruce (190-1991) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international forward Akoldah Gak (208-2002) who recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and guard Koen Sapwell (193-1999, college: CS Monterey) added 18 points respectively. Four Brisbane Spartans players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Thunder maintains second place with 15-4 record having just one victory less than leader Rockingham F. Loser Brisbane Spartans keep the seventh position with nine games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
