Date: October 1, 2023
There was a surprise result when Melbourne Phoenix beat at home Perth Wildcats 110-99 on Sunday. They outrebounded Perth Wildcats 42-27 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. American center Tyler Cook (206-1997, college: Iowa) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and the former international swingman Mitch Creek (196-1992) chipped in 23 points and 9 rebounds. Five Melbourne Phoenix players scored in double figures. At the losing side swingman Ben Henshall (195-2004) responded with 24 points and 5 rebounds and the former international power forward Keanu Pinder (210-1995, college: Arizona) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Melbourne Phoenix will meet Hawks in the next round.
