There was no surprise in Findon where 10th ranked Adelaide 36ers (2-5) were defeated by fourth ranked Melbourne Phoenix (4-3) 102-85 on Thursday. Melbourne Phoenix dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Adelaide 36ers' 44. Melbourne Phoenix looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Alan Williams (203-1993, college: UCSB) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds and the former international swingman Mitch Creek (196-1992) who added 23 points during the contest. At the losing side Syrian-American guard Trey Kell III (193-1996, college: SDSU, agency: Slash Sports) responded with 21 points and American-North Macedonian center Jacob Wiley (203-1994, college: EWU) scored 14 points and 8 rebounds. Five Melbourne Phoenix and four Adelaide 36ers players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Melbourne Phoenix have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 4-3 record. Adelaide 36ers at the other side dropped to the eighth place with five games lost. Melbourne Phoenix will meet at home New Zealand Breakers (#9) in the next round where they are favorite. Adelaide 36ers will play against New Zealand Breakers in Auckland and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
