The most surprising game was a loss of top-rankedUnited (10-3) in Melbourne on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by eighth ranked Cairns Taipans (5-7) 115-103 . It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of United. Cairns dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to United 's 42 and made 26-of-34 free shots (76.5 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Cairns especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 56.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. 30 personal fouls committed by Melbourne helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American guard Patrick Miller (185-1992, college: Tennessee St., agency: Slash Sports) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 10 assists for the winners and his fellow American import guard Tahjere McCall (193-1994, college: Tennessee St.) chipped in 23 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Matthew Dellavedova (193-1990, college: SMC) with 21 points and 9 assists and the former international guard Chris Goulding (192-1988) scored 23 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cairns moved-up to seventh place. Melbourne at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. Cairns are looking forward to face Adelaide (#9) in Findon in the next round. Melbourne will play at home against Brisbane (#6) and is hoping to win this game.
