NBL Round 2 (Regular Season): Bulls keep a leadership position

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in NBL. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Bulls defeated Tauranga in Pukekohe 65-61. Bulls outrebounded Whai 40-28 including 27 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American guard Tae Hardy (190, college: UTEP) who scored 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international swingman Reuben Te Rangi (198-1994) chipped in 13 points and 9 rebounds. The former international forward Carter Hopoi (207-2006) produced 13 points and 6 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Tauranga will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Bulls will try to continue on its current victory against Hawks in Tamatea.
Saints recorded a loss in Wellington. Hosts were defeated by Airs 115-110. Australian center Harrison Froling (210-1998, college: Marquette) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 12 rebounds. Carlin Davison contributed with 36 points (!!!) and 4 assists for the winners. The former international forward Hyrum Harris (204-1996, college: Umpqua CC) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists for Saints. Saints' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Airs will play against Tuatara in Auckland in the next round where they are favorite. Saints will play on the road against Giants in Nelson and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a home loss of Airs against Jets on Tuesday night. Host Airs were defeated by Jets in a tough game in New Plymouth 84-93. Corey Webster scored 30 points and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners. Harrison Froling responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds. Jets will meet Panthers in the next round. Airs will play against Tuatara in Auckland and hope to win that game.

In the last two games of round 2 winless Giants were defeated by Rams in Christchurch 90-77. Whai beat Nuggets at home 97-82.
The best stats of 2nd round was 26 points and 10 rebounds by Jose Perez of Nuggets.



Saints - Airs 110-115

Saints recorded a loss in Wellington. Hosts were defeated by Airs 115-110. Saints were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Australian center Harrison Froling (210-1998, college: Marquette) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 12 rebounds. Carlin Davison (197-2003) contributed with 36 points (!!!) and 4 assists for the winners. The former international forward Hyrum Harris (204-1996, college: Umpqua CC) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists and Australian swingman Nick Marshall (198-1999, college: Clarke) added 25 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Saints. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Saints' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Airs will play against Tuatara in Auckland in the next round where they are favorite. Saints will play on the road against Giants in Nelson and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Rams - Giants 90-77

There was an upset in Christchurch where Giants were defeated by Rams 90-77 on Sunday. The former international guard Tamatoa Isaac (188-2006) scored 23 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the former international forward Tohi Smith-Milner (205-1995, college: Polk State CC) chipped in 16 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. The former international forward Hayden Jones (197-2007) responded with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and American forward Brice Johnson (206-1994, college: UNC, agency: DBA Reed) scored 11 points and 8 rebounds. Four Rams and five Giants players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Rams will meet at home Sharks in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Giants will play against Saints and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

No shocking result in a game when Tauranga defeated at home Nuggets 97-82 on Wednesday. Whai made 22-of-27 free shots (81.5 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American point guard Chris Jones (178-1991, college: Louisville, agency: Haylett Sports) scored 25 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international guard Kruz Perrott-Hunt (191-2000, college: S.Dakota) chipped in 25 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Four Tauranga players scored in double figures. Dominican forward Jose Perez (196-1998, college: Arizona St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds and American guard Donald Carey (196-1999, college: Maryland) scored 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tauranga will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Nuggets will play against Hawks in Tamatea and hope to win that game.
