International Power forward Samuel Timmins (211-F/C-1997) put on an amazing game in the last round for Southland Sharks, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 2.
The 28-year old player recorded a triple-double of 26 points adding also 19 rebounds and 10 assists, while his team beat Bulls (#9, 0-2), the league's bottom-ranked team 94-86. Thanks to this victory Sharks moved-up to the 8th position in New Zealand NBL. Sharks is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 1-2 record. Timmins just recently signed at Sharks, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Former The University of Washington star has very solid stats this year. Timmins is in league's top in points (8th best: 24.3ppg) and averages impressive 3.0bpg and 68.9% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was young American Kaden Sand (198-G-2001) of Manawatu Jets. Sand had a very good evening with a double-double of 39 points and 10 rebounds. Of course Jets cruised to a 109-102 relatively comfortable win over Hawks (0-4). The season is still at the very beginning and this victory may help a lot. Let's wait for the next round. Sand is one of the most experienced players at Jets and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 24.3ppg (#7). His other stats are also decent: 7.7rpg and 4.3apg.

Third on the list of top players last round was Australian swingman Daniel Grida (197-G/F-1998) of Hawkes Bay Hawks (#11). Grida got into 30-points club by scoring 33 points in the last round. He went also for seven rebounds . Despite Grida's great performance the Hawks lost 102-109 to Jets (#7, 1-2). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. Hawks can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have awful season losing so far all 4 games. Grida has individually a great season in New Zealand. After only 4 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 27.0ppg (2nd best) and rebounds with 10.5rpg (5th best).
