The Southland Sharks clinched the NBL title. They overcame the Wellington Saints in the Grand Final today. The victory marked the second NBL success for the Saints. Southland were trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 15-10 charge of Sharks, which allowed them to win the game. Australian swingman Todd Blanchfield (200-91) fired a double-double by scoring 23 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. American-Fijian forward Tai Wesley (200-86, college: Utah St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds. The former international swingman Brendon Polyblank (197-78, college: Texas St.) produced 18 points and 8 rebounds and Australian power forward Daniel Johnson (210-88, college: Pepperdine) added 17 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Saints players scored in double figures.
