Prechtel's double-double lands her Player of the Week award- August 15, 2023
She had a double-double of 26 points and 20 rebounds, while her team lost the game against Whai (#4, 3-4) 64-86. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Despite this loss S. Hoiho managed to keep New Zealand Tauihi Basketball Aoteroa leading position. They afford to lose this game, but they have to be very careful to avoid similar "accidents". S. Hoiho has a very solid 5-3 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. Prechtel turned to be S. Hoiho's top player in her first season with the team. Stanford University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Prechtel is in league's top in points (5th best: 19.6ppg), assists (7th best: 3.9apg) and averages solid 3.3bpg and 2.3spg. Second best performed player last round was Mikayla Cowling (188-F-1996, agency: LBM Management) of Whai. She is American forward in her first season at Whai. In the last game Cowling recorded impressive double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds. Of course she led Whai to another comfortable win outscoring the higher-ranked S. Hoiho (#1, 5-3) 86-64. It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Whai consolidated its place in top 4 of the standings. Her team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 3-4 record. Cowling is a newcomer at Whai and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. She belongs to the best scorers in the league with 22.3ppg (#4). Her other stats are also decent: 9.3rpg and 4.7apg. Third place about best performers goes to forward Esra McGoldrick (188-F-1999) of Mainland P. (#5). McGoldrick showcased her all-around game by recording 21 points, thirteen rebounds (!!!) and five assists in the last round. She was a key player of Mainland P., leading her team to a 102-61 easy win against the higher-ranked S. Hoiho (#1, 5-3). Mainland P. can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have extremely bad season and 2-5 record places them at the very bottom of the standings. McGoldrick has individually a great season in New Zealand. After only 4 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 11.3rpg (3rd best). Other top performing players last week: 4. Chrislyn Carr (165-G) of Tokomanawa Q. - 32 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists 5. Iimar'i Thomas (178-F-2000) of N. Kahu - 25 points and 7 rebounds 6. Natasha Mack (193-C/F-1997) of Mainland P. - 24 points and 9 rebounds 7. Krystal Leger-Walker (175-G-1997) of N. Kahu - 19 points, 5 rebounds and 13 assists 8. Aaliyah Wilson (180-G-1998) of Whai - 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists 9. Tera Reed (183-G-1998) of N. Kahu - 24 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists 10. Ritorya Tamilo (192-C-2005) of N. Kahu - 16 points and 8 rebounds The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
