Julius Halaifonua – Georgetown University

Halaifonua is another promising young basketball player who is out to showcase his enormous potential in the NCAA this season.
Straight from Harbour Basketball and Rosmini College, Halaifonua has been making waves for both club and country since his emergence.
After spending the past two years at the NBA Global Academy in Australia, he has quickly established himself as one of New Zealand's top prospects.
He became the eighth-youngest player ever to represent the Tall Blacks in February, making his debut as a 17-year-old and producing a stunning performance.
He earned The Ambassador Trophy and the 2023 BBNZ Male Junior Player of the Year title and will be determined to carry that form into his freshman year.

Will Shortt – Niagara University

Will Shortt is set to make waves in the NCAA next season after committing to the Niagara Purple Eagles.
Shortt earned a spot on the New Zealand national team and represented his country at the FIBA U16 Asian Championship and the FIBA U17 World Cup in Spain in 2022.
The forward graduated from Auckland Grammar School in 2022 before heading to the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, for the 2023/24 varsity season.
Shortt’s all-around game and potential caught the attention of coaches at Niagara, and they’ll be hoping he can replicate that form in the NCAA this season.

Transfers

Tafara Gapare: Georgia Tech to University of Maryland

New Zealander Tafara Gapare is poised to play for his third university in as many years.
He has played a combined 59 games for the University of Massachusetts and Georgia Tech University in the last two years but will now embark on a new challenge in Maryland.
During his time at Georgia Tech, Gapare notched a career-high 20 points against Penn State. He also led the team with 33 blocks for the season, ranking 10th highest in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Gapare will be an exceptional addition to the University of Maryland.

Finn Lally: Trinidad State College (JUCO) to College of William & Mary

Flynn Lally has switched from Trinidad State College to the College of William & Mary ahead of the upcoming season.
Lally proved to be a key addition for the Trinidad State Trojans despite joining halfway through the 2021/22 season. He averaged nine points and 5.3 rebounds per game last season.
His standout performance came in November 2023 when he scored a career-high 30 points in a victory over Laramie Country.
Lally will hope to pick up where he left off in the upcoming season.

Ahmed Essahatay: Long Island to Southeastern Louisiana University

Ahmed Essahatay has joined Southern Louisiana University for his junior season. He has spent the past 18 months at Long Island University.
Essahatay made his debut for Long Island against Stonehill College in January last year and went on to feature 26 times for the New York City-based team.
The Kiwi star came back to haunt Stonehill College in January this year, notching a career-high 12 points.
His new university will be hoping he can deliver consistent performances this season.
