McSpadden number one in New Zealand Tauihi Basketball Aoteroa for round 1

Australian Center Lara McSpadden (193-C-1999) had an amazing evening in the last round for Whai, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 1.
The 25-year old player had a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds, while her team crushed, the league's bottom-ranked team Mainland P. (#4, 0-1) with 18-point margin 98-80. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Whai is placed at 3rd position in New Zealand Tauihi Basketball Aoteroa. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Whai won just one (their first) game. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. McSpadden turned to be Whai's top player in her first season with the team. Lara McSpadden has solid league stats. She is in league's top in points (4th best: 21.0ppg), rebounds (4th best: 13.0rpg), assists (6th best: 4.0apg) and averages impressive 64.3% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was young Australian Louise Brown (189-F-1995) of league's second-best Tokomanawa Queens. Brown had a very good evening with a double-double of 25 points and 16 rebounds. It was enough for Queens to edge S. Hoiho (0-2) 73-68. Her team has extremely good start of the season. They won their first game. However the season is at the beginning, so everything can happen. They still may lose their high position in the standings. Brown is a newcomer at Tokomanawa Q., but is already one of team's top players. She belongs to the best scorers in the league with 25.0ppg (#2). She also registered 16.0 boards per game.

Third on the list of top players last round was another Whai's star - American swingman Ashley Joens (183-G/F-2000). Joens showcased her all-around game by recording 25 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists in the last round. She was another key player of Whai, helping her team with a 98-80 easy win against #4 ranked Mainland P. in a game of the week. Whai has a very good start of the season. But there was just one game played, so it's too early to judge them at this stage. Joens also has a very good start of the season with very strong stats. The season just started for Joens as she played only first game. But it already looks like she can be another team's leader.
