The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Kahu (3-1) on the court of Pouakai on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Pouakai 88-79. Mainland P. outrebounded N. Kahu 37-26 including 23 on the defensive glass. Mainland P. looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a good game for Australian swingman Mikhaela Cann (177-1994) who led her team to a victory with 26 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international forward Esra McGoldrick (188-1999, college: NC State) contributed with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American swingman IimarI Thomas (178-2000, college: UCLA) answered with 37 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) for N. Kahu. Pouakai is looking forward to face S. Hoiho (#5) in the next round. Kahu will have a break next round.
Important game to mention about took place in . Queens (2-1) saved a 2-point victory at home edging Whai (1-3) 92-90 on Friday evening. It was a great evening for American forward Jordan Horston (188-2001, college: Tennessee) who led her team to a victory scoring 33 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Florencia Chagas helped adding 18 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. The best for the losing side was Australian center Lara McSpadden (193-1999) with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists. Queens will again play against Whai (#4) in the next round. Whai will have a break next round.
The game in was also quite interesting. Whai (1-3) played at the court of Hoiho (1-3). Hoiho managed to secure a 7-point victory 83-76 on Sunday. It was an exceptional evening for Samantha Bowman who led the winners and scored 20 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. McKenna Dale came up with 23 points and 8 rebounds for Whai in the defeat. Hoiho will meet Mainland P. in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Whai will play against Tokomanawa Q. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
