Best players of New Zealand Tauihi Basketball Aoteroa round 5

American Ashley Joens (183-G/F-2000) had a very impressive game in the last round for Whai and that's her to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 5.
The 24-year old swingman had a double-double of 29 points and 13 rebounds, while her team crushed S. Hoiho (#4, 2-4) with 19-point margin 90-71. Whai maintains the 5th position in New Zealand Tauihi Basketball Aoteroa. The season is still in it's early stage, so the team may have a chance to improve their current position in the standings. They lost 5 games and had just two victories. Joens turned to be Whai's top player in her first season with the team. Iowa State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Joens is in league's top in points (2nd best: 23.6ppg).

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young American forward Jordan Horston (188-F-2001) of second-ranked Tokomanawa Queens. Horston impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds. Bad luck as Queens lost that game 83-89 to slightly lower-ranked Mainland P. (#3, 3-3). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Tokomanawa Q. still maintains its place in the top 2 of the standings, even despite this loss. Her team's 3-2 record is not bad at all. Horston is a newcomer at Tokomanawa Q. and it seems she did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. She belongs to the best scorers in the league with 25.0ppg (#1). Her other stats are also decent: 10.3rpg and 5.3apg.

The third best performed player last round was another Whai's star - former international guard McKenna Dale (183-G-1999). Dale showcased her all-around game by recording 14 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists in the last round. She was another key player of Whai, helping her team with a 90-71 easy win against slightly higher-ranked S. Hoiho (#4, 2-4). Whai can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have extremely bad season and 2-5 record places them at the very bottom of the standings. Dale has a very solid season. In 7 games in New Zealand she scored 11.7ppg. She also has 5.9rpg and a FGP of 62.5%.
