Joens' 32-point game gives her Player of the Week award

24-year old American swingman Ashley Joens (183-G/F-2000) had a great game in the last round for Whai and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 9.
She had the game-high 32 points adding nine rebounds and two assists for Whai in her team's victory, helping them to outclass Tokomanawa Q. (#3, 5-5) with 34-point margin 97-63. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Whai maintains the 4th position in New Zealand Tauihi Basketball Aoteroa. Whai is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 5-6 record. In the team's last game Joens had a remarkable eight three-pointers out of 17 attempts. She turned to be Whai's top player in her first season with the team. Iowa State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Joens is in league's top in points (2nd best: 23.6ppg) and rebounds (7th best: 8.3rpg).

Second best performed player last round was Iimar'I Thomas (178-G/F-2000) of top-ranked Northern Kahu. She is American swingman in her first season at N. Kahu. In the last game Thomas recorded an impressive double-double of 27 points and 10 rebounds. Of course she led Kahu to another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked S. Hoiho (#5, 3-8) 95-69. This victory allowed N. Kahu to move up to 1st position in the standings. Her team has currently 7-4 record. Thomas is a newcomer at N. Kahu and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. She belongs to the best scorers in the league with 23.5ppg (#3). She also registered 8.6 boards per game.

Third place about best performers goes to forward Haliegh Reinoehl (188-F-1998) of league's second-best Mainland Pouakai. Reinoehl scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds (!!!). She was a key player of Pouakai, leading her team to a 88-66 easy win against the lower-ranked S. Hoiho (#5, 3-8). Mainland P. needs these victories very badly if they think about taking over top position in the standings. Their record at this point is 7 victories and 4 lost games. Reinoehl has a great season in New Zealand. After 11 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.3rpg (8th best).
