There was a minor upset when 4th placedUnited (2-4) was crushed on the road by seventh ranked Sydney Flames (2-4) 90-55 on Saturday. Sydney forced 19 Geelong U. turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Geelong U. 's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Sydney made 9 blocks. Forward Shaneice Swain (175-2003) stepped up and scored 25 points, 5 assists and 5 steals for the winners and the former international center Cayla George (193-1989) chipped in 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Sydney Flames players scored in double figures. Sydney Flames' coach felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international forward Keely Froling (188-1996, college: SMU) responded with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds and New Zealand-Israeli forward Danielle Raber (183-1996) scored 10 points and 6 rebounds. Sydney moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Southside and Geelong U. Sydney will meet at home league's second-placed Perth in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Geelong U. will play against Adelaide and hope to secure a win.
