Regular Season Round 10: Southside - Townsville 75-78

The most exciting game of round 10 in the WNBL took place in Dandenong. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 6th rankedSouthside Flyers (4-8) to third ranked Townsville Fire (8-5) 78-75 on Saturday evening. Townsville looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Townsville made 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Lauren Cox (193-1998, college: Baylor, agency: LBM Management) who helped to win the game recording 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. Forward Alicia Froling (190-1996, college: SMU) contributed with 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American forward Naz Hillmon-Baker (188-2000, college: Michigan) replied with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 12 rebounds (made all of her seven free throws) and the former international point guard Maddison Rocci (169-1998) added 12 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists in the effort for Southside. Five Townsville and four Southside players scored in double figures. Townsville maintains third position with 8-5 record having five points less than leader Bendigo. Defending champion Southside keeps the sixth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Geelong U.. Townsville will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Southside will play on the road against Townsville (#3) and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
