Regular Season Round 17: NZL Breakers - Melbourne 89-91

Ninth-rankedBreakers (8-15) made lots of trouble for second ranked United (15-9) in Auckland on Monday. The visitors from Melbourne managed to secure only two-point victory 91-89 . However their fans expected much easier game. The former international guard Chris Goulding (192-1988) stepped up and scored 42 points (!!!) for the winners and the former international forward Jack White (201-1997, college: Duke) chipped in 8 points and 13 rebounds. American guard Matt Mooney (189-1997, college: Texas Tech) responded with 19 points and 8 assists and Mexican swingman Karim Lopez (202-2007) scored 19 points and 5 rebounds. Four NZL Breakers players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Melbourne maintains second place with 15-9 record having just one point less than leader Illawarra. NZL Breakers lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 15 games lost. Melbourne will meet league's leader Illawarra in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. NZL Breakers will play against SE Melbourne (#5) and hope to secure a win.
