Regular Season Round 21: Melbourne - Tasmania JJ 94-92

Seventh-ranked JackJumpers (12-16) made lots of trouble for second ranked United (18-10) in Melbourne. United managed to secure only two-point victory 94-92. However their fans expected much easier game. Melbourne outrebounded Tasmania JJ 42-26 including 27 on the defensive glass. Melbourne players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. It was a good game for New Zealand guard Shea Ili (184-1992) who led his team to a victory with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international forward Kyle Bowen (203-2000, college: SMC) contributed with 15 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. United's coach Dean Vickerman allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American Milton Doyle (193-1993, college: Loyola, IL) answered with 19 points and 7 assists and the other American import point guard Jordon Crawford (168-1990, college: BGSU, agency: Slash Sports) added 20 points in the effort for Tasmania JJ. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. United have a solid series of three victories in a row. Melbourne maintains second place with 18-10 record having just one point less than leader Illawarra. Tasmania JJ lost sixth consecutive game. Defending champion keeps the seventh position with 16 games lost. They share it with Brisbane. Melbourne's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Melbourne SE Melbourne.
