Regular Season Round 14: Geelong U. - Canberra 77-91

Date: February 1, 2025
The most interesting game of round 14 was a home defeat of 6th ranked Geelong U. (6-13) to fifth ranked Canberra (7-12) 91-77. Canberra Capitals made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 United turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Canberra Capitals made 7 blocks. The former international guard Jade Melbourne (178-2002, college: Arizona St.) scored 17 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and American center Charli Collier (196-1999, college: Texas) chipped in 23 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Four Canberra Capitals players scored in double figures. The former international swingman Alexandra Sharp (182-1997, college: Wake Forest) responded with 23 points and 8 rebounds and forward Hannah Hank (188-2001, college: Clemson) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). Canberra moved-up to fourth place. Geelong U. lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the seventh position with 13 games lost. Canberra are looking forward to face league's leader Bendigo at home in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Geelong U. will play against Adelaide (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
