Regular Season Round 1: Dandenong R. - Diamond VE 98-73

There was a minor upset when Diamond Valley Eagles were smashed by Rangers in Dandenong 98-73 on Sunday. Dandenong R. dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Diamond Valley Eagles's 42. Dandenong R. outrebounded Diamond VE 44-26 including a 29-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Manuela Puoch nailed a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side and American guard Amber Smith (180-1998, college: Missouri) accounted for 20 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Abbey Ellis (168, college: Purdue) came up with 23 points and Irish guard Orla O'Reilly (182-1990, college: Binghamton) added 12 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals respectively for Diamond VE in the defeat. Five Dandenong R. and four Diamond VE players scored in double figures. Rangers will meet at home Eltham W. in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Diamond Valley Eagles will play against Melbourne and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
