Regular Season Round 2: Geelong U. - Ballarat M. 94-61

Very expected game when Ballarat Miners were smashed by United in Geelong 94-61 on Saturday. Geelong U. dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Ballarat Miners's 24 and made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. Geelong U. forced 23 Ballarat M. turnovers and outrebounded them 46-25 including a 21-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Geelong U. looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Ballarat M.'s players. The former international guard Jazmin Shelley (175-2000, college: Nebraska) notched a double-double by scoring 19 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the effort and forward Hannah Hank (188-2001, college: Clemson) supported her with 24 points and 12 rebounds (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!). Four United players scored in double figures. Even 21 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) by the former international guard Abigail Wehrung (177-1995) did not help to save the game for Ballarat M.. Swingman Micah Simpson (175-2002) added 16 points for the guests. United will meet at home Bendigo in the next round where they are favorite. Ballarat Miners will play against Hobart C. and hope to win that game.
