There was a small surprise when twelfth rankedThunder (1-1) defeated bottom-ranked Pirates (0-1) in Runcorn 90-72 on Saturday. Logan T. forced 19 SW Metro P. turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. French guard Amandine Toi (178-1998, college: Virginia) notched 24 points to lead the effort and swingman Mikhaela Cann (177-1994) supported her with 12 points, 11 assists and 4 steals. Even 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists by swingman Stephanie Bairstow (188-1994, college: Utah St.) did not help to save the game for SW Metro P. . American swingman Beyonce Bea (185, college: WSU) added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Five Logan T. and four SW Metro P. players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Thunder left bottom position moving up to sixth place. Loser Pirates still closes the standings with one game lost. They share the position with 5 other teams.
