There was no surprise in Maitland where 14th rankedPanthers (3-8) were crushed by seventh ranked Mustangs (6-4) 101-50 on Saturday. Maitland dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Panthers 's 28. Maitland forced 28 Penrith turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Penrith 's players. American Mandrell Worthy (191-1996, college: Azusa Pacific, agency: Warren Sports International) stepped up and scored 22 points and 5 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) for the winners and his fellow American import guard Christian Little (188-1998, college: Regis Univ.) chipped in 14 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists. Worthy is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Five Mustangs players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Zeke Evans (204-2003) with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds and swingman Jonah Pares (192-2003) scored 7 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Maitland moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Melbourne T. and Manly Warr. Loser Panthers dropped to the eleventh position with eight games lost. They share it with Perth R.. Maitland will meet at home Norths B. (#10) in the next round. Penrith will play against Cent.Coast C. in Terrigal and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
