Regular Season Round 9: Casey C. - Melbourne 77-85

Date: May 24, 2025
Not a big story in a game in Cranbourne where 12th ranked Cavaliers (4-7) were defeated by seventh ranked Boomers (7-3) 85-77 on Saturday. Melbourne outrebounded Casey 45-33 including 32 on the defensive glass. The former international forward Sara Blicavs (189-1993) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and New Zealand center Ella Tofaeono (190-1998, college: Texas Tech) chipped in 21 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). Four Boomers players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was New Zealand forward Sharne Robati (180-2001) with 21 points and 7 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and New Zealand forward Esra McGoldrick (188-1999, college: NC State) scored 10 points and 6 rebounds. Cavaliers' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Boomers have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Melbourne moved-up to third place, which they share with Perth R. Casey lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth position with seven games lost. They share it with Penrith. Melbourne will meet league's leader Geelong U. on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Casey will play against the league's second-placed Keilor T. (#2) in Melbourne and hope to secure a win.
