Regular Season Round 9: Bendigo B. - Mt.Gambier 70-100
Date: May 25, 2025
There was no surprise in Bendigo where 6th rankedBraves (7-6) were crushed by second ranked Pioneers (9-3) 100-70 on Sunday. Mt.Gambier dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Braves 's 40. Mt.Gambier looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Bendigo 's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Mt.Gambier made 7 blocks. Forward Akech Aliir (204-2000) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and American swingman Kaden Archie (198-2000, college: Georgia South) chipped in 22 points and 7 rebounds. Archie is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Pioneers players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American swingman Justin Johnson (198-1999, college: UTRGV) with 21 points and the other American import swingman Charles Matthews (198-1996, college: Michigan) scored 22 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Pioneers have a solid series of four victories in a row. Mt.Gambier maintains second place with 9-3 record having just two point less than leader BA CoE. Loser Braves dropped to the seventh position with six games lost. Mt.Gambier will meet at home Dandenong R. (#19) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Bendigo will play against Ballarat M. (#11) and hope to secure a win.
