No shocking result in a game in Gawler where first rankedSabres (9-2) defeated 10th ranked Lions (1-11) 84-72 on Saturday. Sturt S. made 19-of-20 free shots (95.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 28 C.Districts L. turnovers. Strangely C.Districts L. outrebounded Sturt S. 45-29 including a 28-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Sturt S. made 10 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Katia Stamatelopoulos (173, college: Colorado St.) who helped to win the game recording 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks and power forward Tayla Brazel (182-2004) who added 24 points during the contest. Sabres' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was forward Tiahna Sears (178-1999, college: N.Alabama) with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 16 rebounds (went 12 for 12 at the free throw line !!!) and Papua New Guinea guard Shanique Lucas (172-2001, college: Union, TN) scored 10 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. Four C.Districts L. players scored in double figures. Sabres have an impressive five-game winning streak. Sturt S. maintains first position with 9-2 record. Loser Lions keeps the tenth place with 11 games lost.
