There was a minor upset in Brisbane where 8th rankedSpartans (4-6) were defeated by eleventh ranked South West Metro Pirates (4-6) 88-72 on Saturday. SW Metro P. made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was naturalized South Sudanese guard Junior Madut (195-1997, college: Hawaii) who scored 20 points and 6 rebounds. Canadian-Serbian point guard Dragan Stajic (188-2000, college: Ottawa) chipped in 11 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Five South West Metro Pirates players scored in double figures. Point guard Tamuri Wigness (184-2002) produced 26 points and 5 rebounds and forward Blake Jones (208-2002, college: CS Monterey) added 15 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. SW Metro P. moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Rockhampton and SD Spartans.
