There was no surprise in Wendouree where 14th rankedBallarat Miners (5-12) were outplayed by tenth ranked Sabres (8-8) 79-50 on Saturday. Sandringham S. dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Ballarat Miners 's 20. Sandringham S. forced 25 Ballarat M. turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was forward Lucy Cochrane (198-2000, college: Portland) who scored 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. Naturalized Turkish guard Funda Nakkasoglu (173-1995, college: Florida) chipped in 20 points. Five Sabres players scored in double figures. Laura Taylor produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 14 rebounds and swingman Micah Simpson (175-2002) added 8 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Sandringham S. moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Bankstown B. and Canberra N. Ballarat M. lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Penrith.
