Everything went according to plan when third rankedMeteors (8-5) defeated 11th ranked Townsville Heat (4-8) in Hermit Park 98-92 on Friday. It was an exceptional evening for naturalized South Sudanese forward Akol Mawein (206, college: Sacramento St.) who led the winners and scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. The former international swingman Makuach Maluach (200-1998, college: N.Mexico) accounted for 21 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Guard Ethan Betts (188-1998, college: Umpqua CC) came up with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists and American-German Grant Teichmann (191-1996, college: C-N, agency: Elevate Sports Alliance) added 18 points and 6 assists respectively for Townsville H. in the defeat. Five Mackay and four Townsville H. players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mackay moved-up to second place. Townsville H. lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with eight games lost.
