Regular Season Round 16: Illawarra H. 2 - Sutherland S. 112-120

There was a surprise result in Wollongong where seventh ranked Sharks (11-8) beat higher ranked Hawks (14-5) 120-112 on Saturday. Sutherland dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Hawks's 26. Sutherland outrebounded Illawarra H. 2 47-31 including 37 on the defensive glass. Sutherland looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of naturalized British center Jason Spurgin (211-2001, college: BGSU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and guard Lochlan Hutchison (188-1999) who added 23 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. At the losing side the former international swingman Todd Blanchfield (198-1991) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 16 rebounds and 7 assists and point guard Kobe McDowell-White (183-2004) scored 30 points and 4 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Hawks' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Sutherland moved-up to fifth place. Loser Hawks dropped to the second position with five games lost. They share it with Canberra B. and Willetton T.. Sutherland will meet at home Inner WB (#13) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Illawarra H. 2 will play against Inner WB (#13) in Inner West and hope to secure a win.
