Very expected game when bottom-rankedPirates (0-4) were smashed by first ranked Brisbane Spartans (5-1) in Runcorn 82-53 on Friday. The winners were led by guard Abby Solway (163-2003, college: S.Georgia Tech) who scored that evening 19 points and 4 assists and New Zealand forward Kalani Purcell (188-1995, college: BYU) supported her with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Four Brisbane Spartans players scored in double figures. Even 7 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists by New Zealand forward Charlotte Whittaker (190-2000, college: Colorado, agency: LBM Management) did not help to save the game for SW Metro P. . Serbian forward Jovana Ilic (191-2009) added 9 points and 9 rebounds for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Brisbane Spartans have an impressive five-game winning streak. Despite that victory SD Spartans went down to second position due to points difference. Loser Pirates still closes the standings with four games lost.
