Australia U19 - New Zealand U19 94:67 Australian Junior National Team opened the Oceania U19 Championship series with the victory over New Zealand. Ryan Broekhoff (196-F-90) notched 25 points to pace the Emus as they grabbed a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. The games have qualifying purposes as both sides have already advanced to the U19 World Championship next year. Nevertheless the Emus made the first step towards gaining the Oceania title thumping their New Zealand counterparts at the Wayville Stadium. The Emus took over right from the start and drove to a 24:14 lead after ten minutes of action. Numerous turnovers plagued the Junior Tall Blacks as they struggled to put up a decent fight. But the Kiwi team still managed to outscore the hosts in the second period and cut the deficit to 9 points at halftime. The Emus regained control over the game in the third period. A string of three-pointers doomed the visitors as the gap grew to 12 points before the final term. The Emus exploded with 31 points in the final period and cruised to the win. Brock Motum (205-F-90) produced 14 points and 6 rebounds for the Aussies. Cody Ellis (202-F-90) nailed 10 points in a win. Brooke Ruscoe (189-G-90) and Dion Prewster (196-G/F-91) chipped in 17 points apiece for New Zealand. David Beck notched 12 in a loss. The teams will meet again tomorrow.

Australia U19 - New Zealand U19 86:71 The Australian U19 National Team celebrated their second straight win over New Zealand counterparts today. The victory meant the Aussies claimed the Oceania U19 Championship title and advanced to the U19 World Championship in 2009. New Zealand will also play at the event despite losing. They booked their spot as the hosts of the tournament. It will be the first ever appearance for the Junior Tall Blacks at this level. The Emus got to a quick start against New Zealand and built a 27:14 lead after the starting period. Dion Prewster cut the deficit to 4 points in the second term but the Emus held on and piled up a 6-point halftime lead. Matthew Dellavedova (189-G-90) netted 8 points in the third period to pace the Aussie team to a 66:51 advantage at three quarter time. The teams traded baskets in the fourth quarter and the Emus secured the winning outcome at the end. Matthew Dellavedova notched 16 points for Australia. Jorden Page (183-G-90) and Brock Motum had 13 points apiece for the winners. Brooke Ruscoe answered with 26 points for the Junior Tall Blacks. Dion Prewster chipped in 14 points in defeat. The teams will meet again on Sunday for the third game of the series.

Australia U19 - New Zealand U19 81:60 The Emus completed the sweep of the Junior Tall Blacks in the final game of the U19 Oceania Champions in Adelaide today. Cody Ellis nailed 18 points and grabbed 6 boards to pace Australia to another confident victory over their archrivals. Both teams secured their U19 World Championship birth long before the series and tried to glue their game schemes well during the series. The teams traded baskets in the starting period. The Emus were just more accurate and outscore the Junior Tall Blacks 17:16. The hosts tightened defense in the second frame and ran away to an 8-point distance at halftime. The complexion of the game did not change after the long break as the Emus controlled the tempo and continued to stretch the lead. Balanced offensive effort allowed the Aussies to accumulate a 21-point advantage heading into the fourth term. The Emus and the Junior Tall Blacks scored 24 points apiece in the fourth frame and the home team cruised to the third straight win at the end. Brock Motum secured 13 points and 7 rebounds for the Emus in the win. Christian Salecich (194-G-90) added 11 points for Australia. Brooke Ruscoe answered with 15 points for New Zealand. Dion Prewster and Robert Loe (207-C-91) nailed 10 points each for the Kiwis in defeat. The Emus outrebounded their opponents 42:25 and forced New Zealand into 21 turnovers. The hosts also accounted for 42 points in the paint.
