The Regular Season in State League just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Cougars smashed Steelers in McKinnon 100-68. Cougars made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American guard Sharif Black (185-1996, college: Bemidji St.) stepped up and scored 29 points and 5 assists (made all of his eight free throws) for the winners and forward Tom Carroll (200-2003) chipped in 22 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side American forward Naaman Hightower (201-1994, college: Sonoma St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Steelers will play next round against strong Devils trying to get back on the winning streak. Cougars will try to continue on its current victory against Gulls in Melbourne.
Vikings recorded a loss in Melbourne. Hosts were defeated by Camberwell 87-69. Guard Luke Shelley (188-1991, college: KWC) nailed 30 points for the winning side and Brendan Trewella accounted for 6 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. American forward DMonte Evans (190, college: Bluefield) came up with 25 points and 7 rebounds for Vikings in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Camberwell will play against Hume City Broncos in Tullamarine in the next round. Vikings will play at home against Jets and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Quite upsetting was Camberwell's home defeat in a game versus Cougars 73-65. Nicholas Laycock fired 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Luke Shelley produced 18 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Camberwell's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Cougars will meet at home Gulls in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Camberwell will play against Hume City Broncos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 1: Wyndham D. destroyed Chelsea G. on the opponent's court 97-78. Sunbury J. outscored Chelsea G. in a home game 90-67. Winless Hume City B. lost to undefeated Wyndham D. on the road 89-126.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 36 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 5 assists by Makuei Puondak of Hume City B..

Vikings recorded a loss in Melbourne. Hosts were defeated by Camberwell 87-69. Camberwell forced 31 Vikings turnovers. Vikings were plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. There was an upset in Melbourne where Gulls were crushed by Devils 97-78 on Saturday. Devils forced 22 Gulls turnovers. American point guard Maurice Howard (185-1997, college: Alcorn St., agency: Green Sports Management) fired 33 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds for the winners. Forward Manel Ayol (201, college: Hawaii) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. Howard is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Forward Aaron Frost (206, college: Dawson CC) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds and point guard Kirk Smith (178) added 14 points respectively for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Devils will meet at home Steelers in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Gulls will play against Cougars in McKinnon and hope to win that game.

There was a small surprise in Sunbury where Jets smashed Gulls 90-67 on Sunday. Jets dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Gulls' 30. Jets forced 21 Gulls turnovers. American forward Trevon Clayton (198, college: FPU) fired a double-double by scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds (on 12-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners. His fellow American import guard Ishmael Sanders (188, college: C-N) chipped in 21 points and 5 assists. Forward Aaron Frost (206, college: Dawson CC) produced 21 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Kirk Smith (178) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Jets will meet Vikings in the next round. Gulls will play against Cougars in McKinnon and hope to win that game.

Quite upsetting was Camberwell's home defeat in a game versus Cougars 73-65. Nicholas Laycock fired 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American Anthony Kimble (196-1987, college: GSC) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 14 rebounds. Kimble is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Guard Luke Shelley (188-1991, college: KWC) produced 18 points and 5 rebounds and Jay Mackenzie added 12 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Camberwell's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Cougars will meet at home Gulls in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Camberwell will play against Hume City Broncos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There was an upset in Werribee where Hume City Broncos were rolled over by Devils 126-89 on Sunday. Devils forced 25 Hume City Broncos turnovers. Strangely Hume City Broncos outrebounded Devils 41-29 including 29 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Forward Manel Ayol (201, college: Hawaii) fired a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American point guard Maurice Howard (185-1997, college: Alcorn St., agency: Green Sports Management) chipped in 27 points. Worth to mention Howard played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Five Devils players scored in double figures. Naturalized South Sudanese forward Makuei Puondak (203-1994, college: UT Southern) produced a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 5 assists (made all of his ten free throws !!!) and forward Max Viitala (196, college: TWU) added 19 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest.
