Round in State League means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Cheltenham where host Sabres (10-5) beat league's leader Mount Gambier Pioneers (11-4) 92-79 on Sunday evening. The best player for the winners was New Zealand guard Shea Ili (184-1992) who scored 30 points. Tom Koppens chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Nick Marshall (196-1999, college: Clarke) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points and 13 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sabres moved-up to third place in League. Mount Gambier Pioneers at the other side dropped to the second position with four games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Gold Coast R. who have the same record. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Top ranked Rollers (11-4) recorded its fourth loss in Loganholme on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by fifth ranked Thunder (9-4) 101-83. It was a great evening for Jeremy Kendle who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 6 rebounds. Mitch Donovan responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 18 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Thunder moved-up to fourth place in League. Loser Rollers still keep top position with four games lost. Waverley F. managed to beat Eltham W. in a home game 74-70. Goldfields G. crushed SW Slammers on the road 104-84. Eastern Suns were beaten by Geraldton B. on its own court 74-80. Perth R. won against Willetton T. in Northbridge 94-78.

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Melbourne where 6th ranked Vikings (5-12) were defeated by seventh ranked Steelers (5-12) 77-61 on Sunday. Steelers dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Vikings' 32.
