The most exciting game of round 7 in the Big V took place in Bellarine. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 7th ranked Jets (4-5) to eighth ranked Storm (5-4) 92-91 in the game for the sixth place. Bellarine looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Bellarine made 10 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Lewis Varley (186-1993) who helped to win the game recording 21 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. American forward Kavione Green (195, college: Bloomfield) contributed with 12 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. Canadian guard Joshua Yorke-Frazer (183-1995, college: Seneca) answered with 26 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for Sunbury. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Bellarine moved-up to sixth place. Sunbury lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with five games lost. Bellarine are looking forward to face higher ranked McKinnon (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sunbury will play against Western PS (#12) and is hoping to win this game.
An interesting game for Cougars (7-3) which played road game in Tullamarine against their close opponent Hume City Broncos (5-3). Third ranked Cougars managed to get a 10-point victory 90-80. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Hume City Broncos. It was a great evening for forward Shaquille Maharaj (196-1997, college: Camosun) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Steve Wooten Jr helped adding 23 points and 13 rebounds. Cougars' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side New Zealand Zach Mckenzie (-2002) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. McKinnon maintains third place with 7-3 record behind leader Collingwood. Hume City at the other side dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with Pakenham. McKinnon will play against Bellarine (#6) on the road in the next round. Hume City will play against the league's leader Wyndham and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Bottom-ranked Steelers is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their ninth consecutive match to eleventh ranked Vikings (2-7) 108-88 on Sunday evening. It was an exceptional evening for James Legan who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 14 rebounds. Russell Permenter came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for Western PS in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Blackburn maintains eleventh place with 2-7 record. Loser Steelers still closes the standings with nine games lost. Blackburn will meet at home higher ranked Pakenham (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Western PS will play against Melbourne Uni (#10) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Other games in round 7 were not that significant. Shepparton was beaten by McKinnon on the road 81-71. Pakenham won against Sunbury on its own court 83-79. Melbourne Uni unfortunately lost to Camberwell in Melbourne 78-85. Keysborough rolled over Shepparton at home 106-75. Wyndham crushed Western PS on the opponent's court 102-73.
The most impressive performance of 7th round was 16 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists by Adetomi Ayilara of Wyndham.




McKinnon - Shepparton 81-71

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Cougars (7-3) beat 8th ranked Gators (4-6) in McKinnon 81-71 on Sunday. McKinnon made 21-of-23 free shots (91.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Shepparton turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for forward Shaquille Maharaj (196-1997, college: Camosun) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds. Guard Mitchell Barry (190) accounted for 19 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Joshua Kooiman came up with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 assists and Thomas Frame added 9 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals respectively for Shepparton in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. McKinnon maintains third place with 7-3 record behind leader Collingwood. Loser Gators keeps the eighth position with six games lost. McKinnon will meet Bellarine (#6) on the road in the next round. Shepparton will play against Camberwell in Melbourne and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 7th ranked Jets' (4-5) road loss to sixth ranked Warriors (5-3) in Pakenham 79-83 on Sunday. It was an exceptional evening for forward Joshua Dow (198-1995, college: Cumberlands) who led the winners and scored 21 points and 5 rebounds. American swingman Tiras Morton (196, college: LCU) accounted for 9 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Canadian guard Joshua Yorke-Frazer (183-1995, college: Seneca) came up with 33 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds and Nathan Baker added 15 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Sunbury in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Pakenham moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Hume City. Sunbury lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with five games lost. Pakenham will meet Blackburn (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Sunbury will play against Western PS (#12) and hope to secure a win.

They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 53.6 percentage. Keysborough looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 18 passes made by Shepparton's players. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Anthony Williams (178-1995, college: Clark Atlanta) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 7 rebounds and 18 assists. His fellow American import forward Gerrard Newby (196-1995, college: Union, KY) accounted for 25 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Williams is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Cougars players scored in double figures. Canadian swingman Jayden Coke (199, college: Academy of Art, agency: Starting 5) came up with 20 points and Joshua Kooiman added 12 points respectively for Shepparton in the defeat.
