Eleventh-ranked Vikings (2-12) gave a tough game to eighth ranked Jets (7-8) in Melbourne on Saturday. The visitors from Sunbury managed to secure only one-point victory 98-97. However their fans expected easier game. Sunbury dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Vikings's 36. Sunbury looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for Nathan Baker who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Canadian guard Joshua Yorke-Frazer (183-1995, college: Seneca) helped adding 24 points. American guard James Legan (190-1987, college: ECU) responded with 37 points (!!!) and 5 assists. Vikings' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Sunbury maintains eighth place with 7-8 record. Blackburn lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with 12 games lost. Sunbury are looking forward to face league's leader Wyndham in Werribee in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. It was a quality performance for American guard Scott Stone (193-1995, college: St.Cloud St.) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds. Malik McKinney accounted for 19 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Guard Callum McNiff (-2003) came up with 15 points for Pakenham in the defeat. Warriors' coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Hume City moved-up to sixth place. Pakenham lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with seven games lost. Hume City will play against Camberwell (#10) in Melbourne in the next round. Pakenham will play at home against Western PS and hopes to get back on the winning track.
There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 11: Camberwell lost to Bellarine on the opponent's court 89-97. McKinnon managed to outperform Melbourne Uni in a home game 107-103. Western PS recorded a loss to Keysborough on the road 90-84.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 48 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds by Nick Carlson of Keysborough.
