The game between third ranked Cougars (11-6) and tenth ranked Camberwell (4-11) was the most important one in the last round on Sunday night. Cougars were edged by Camberwell in a tough game in Melbourne 92-94. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Cougars. American point guard Christopher Elder (180-1989, college: St.Francis, IL) fired 17 points for the winners. Forward Jackson Dean chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds. Mongolian forward Steve Wooten Jr (198-1998, college: Bethesda) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Camberwell maintains tenth place with 4-11 record. McKinnon at the other side keeps the third position with six games lost. Camberwell's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Melbourne to the arena Blackburn.
Bottom-ranked Steelers managed to get a third victory, breaking the series of three consecutive losses. This time they won against fifth-ranked Storm in Bellarine 101-86. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 15-point difference suggests that Steelers is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Russell Permenter (203-1988, college: Providence) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points and 17 rebounds. Paul Brotherson contributed with 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Steelers' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward Kavione Green (195, college: Bloomfield) answered with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds for Bellarine. Western PS (3-13) moved-up to eleventh place. Bellarine lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with seven games lost. Western PS will play against higher ranked Sunbury (#8) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bellarine will play against Melbourne Uni and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Bellarine - Wyndham 102-110

Leader Devils delivered the thirteenth victory on Saturday night. This time they beat 5th ranked Storm (9-7) 110-102 in Bellarine. Wyndham made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Bellarine 50-38 including a 36-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Wyndham looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Forward Adetomi Ayilara (208-1998, college: Cloud County) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 13 rebounds for the winners and guard Oskar Jones chipped in 27 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side American forward Kavione Green (195, college: Bloomfield) responded with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 13 rebounds and 7 assists and the other American import guard Nick Velasquez (190-1994, college: Union, TN) scored 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. There was no surprise in Melbourne where 11th ranked Vikings (2-13) were crushed by third ranked Cougars (11-6) 114-90 on Saturday. McKinnon dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Vikings's 42. McKinnon outrebounded Blackburn 50-27 including a 38-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. McKinnon looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Blackburn's players. Forward Shaquille Maharaj (196-1997, college: Camosun) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and guard Mitchell Barry (190) chipped in 15 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists. Five Cougars players scored in double figures. Cougars' coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American Anthony Kimble (196-1987, college: GSU) responded with 23 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import point guard Kortland Martin (180, college: FHU) scored 26 points. Cougars have a solid series of four victories in a row. McKinnon maintains third place with 11-6 record despite having the same number of points like the leader Wyndham. Blackburn lost sixth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with 13 games lost. McKinnon will meet league's second-placed Keysborough on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.
