Big V Round 16 (Regular Season): Keysborough is upset by Shepparton

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in Big V. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most important game in the last round took place in Keysborough between second ranked Cougars (14-6) and sixth ranked Gators (11-8) on Sunday night. Cougars were crushed by Gators at home 99-78. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Cougars. American Devin Thomas (203-1996, college: Indiana St., agency: One Motive Sports) fired a double-double by scoring 22 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Canadian swingman Jayden Coke (199, college: Academy of Art) chipped in 24 points and 6 rebounds. American forward Gerrard Newby (196-1995, college: Union, KY) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 16 rebounds for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gators have a solid three-game winning streak. Shepparton moved-up to fifth place. Keysborough at the other side keeps the second position with six games lost. They share it with McKinnon. Shepparton are looking forward to face Blackburn (#10) in Melbourne in the next round where they are favorite. Keysborough will play at home against Pakenham (#6) and is hoping to win this game.
The game in Bellarine supposed to be also worth to mention about. Third ranked Cougars (14-6) played at the court of 8th ranked Storm (9-11). Cougars smashed Storm 128-92. Worth to mention a great performance of Mongolian forward Steve Wooten Jr (198-1998, college: Bethesda) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 31 points and 13 rebounds. Shaquille Maharaj contributed with 20 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Cougars' coach felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Kavione Green (195, college: Bloomfield) replied with 31 points and 9 rebounds for Bellarine. Cougars have a solid three-game winning streak. McKinnon moved-up to second place, which they share with Keysborough. Bellarine lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 11 games lost. McKinnon will play against Pakenham (#6) at home in the next round. Bellarine will play against Western PS and hopes to get back on the winning track.
The game in Melbourne was also quite interesting. Sixth ranked Gators (11-8) played at the court of 7th ranked Melbourne Uni (9-10). Gators managed to secure a 6-point victory 97-91 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Melbourne Uni. Worth to mention a great performance of Jayden Coke who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds. At the losing side Ricardo Time responded with 30 points and 4 steals. Gators have a solid three-game winning streak. Shepparton moved-up to fifth place. Loser Melbourne Uni keeps the seventh position with ten games lost. Shepparton will meet Blackburn (#10) in the next round where they are favorite. Melbourne Uni will play against the league's leader Wyndham and hope to secure a win.

Rest of the games of round 16 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Wyndham defeated Blackburn in Werribee 125-112. Camberwell beat Western PS at home 100-89. Sunbury lost to Pakenham on the opponent's court 73-86. Hume City outscored Western PS in a home game 99-74.
The best stats of 16th round was 23 points and 7 rebounds by Malik McKinney of Hume City.




Blackburn - Wyndham 112-125

There was no surprise in Melbourne where 10th ranked Vikings (5-14) were defeated by second ranked Devils (14-4) 125-112 on Saturday. Wyndham made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Troyce Manassa (193-1993, college: SSU) who helped to win the game recording 27 points and 5 assists and forward Adetomi Ayilara (208-1998, college: Cloud County) who added 23 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) during the contest. Five Devils players scored in double figures. At the losing side American point guard Kortland Martin (180, college: FHU) responded with 43 points (!!!) and 7 assists (on 17-of-21 shooting from the field) and his fellow American import guard James Legan (190-1987, college: ECU) scored 26 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Vikings' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Wyndham keeps a position of league leader. Loser Vikings keeps the tenth place with 14 games lost. They share the position with Camberwell. Wyndham will meet Camberwell (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Blackburn will play against Shepparton and hope to secure a win.

Camberwell - Western PS 100-89

The game between closely ranked teams ended with eleventh ranked Camberwell's (5-14) home victory over bottom-ranked Steelers (4-16) 100-89 on Saturday. Camberwell looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Western PS's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Camberwell made 9 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of center Jack Thornton who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks and naturalized Canadian guard Maxwell Barkeley (188-1992, college: Simon Fraser) who added 15 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. At the losing side American center Russell Permenter (203-1988, college: Providence) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 16 rebounds and naturalized British forward Paul Brotherson (197-1989, college: MSU Denver) scored 19 points and 6 rebounds. Five Camberwell and four Western PS players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Camberwell moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Blackburn. Western PS lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost. Camberwell will meet at home league's leader Wyndham in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Western PS will play against Bellarine (#8) and hope to secure a win.

The game in Bellarine supposed to be also worth to mention about. Third ranked Cougars (14-6) played at the court of 8th ranked Storm (9-11). Cougars smashed Storm 128-92. McKinnon dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Storm's 42 and made 18-of-23 charity shots (78.3 percent) during the game. McKinnon outrebounded Bellarine 52-28 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. McKinnon players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Mongolian forward Steve Wooten Jr (198-1998, college: Bethesda) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 31 points and 13 rebounds. Very expected game in Pakenham where 9th ranked Jets (7-12) were defeated by fifth ranked Warriors (10-8) 86-73 on Saturday. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Tiras Morton (196, college: LCU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks and guard Cody Fredrickson (188-2000, college: Ottawa, KS) who added 19 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Warriors' coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side New Zealand center Joel Coffey (213, college: Webber) responded with 17 points and 8 rebounds and Nathan Baker scored 15 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Despite that victory Pakenham went down to sixth position due to points difference. Sunbury lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 12 games lost. Pakenham will meet league's second-placed Keysborough on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Sunbury will play against Hume City (#4) in Tullamarine and hope to secure a win.
