The most exciting game of round 18 in the Big V took place in Bellarine. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked Warriors (11-11) to eighth ranked Storm (11-11) 99-96 in the game for the seventh place. Bellarine looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American forward Kavione Green (195, college: Bloomfield) had a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 20 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import guard Nick Velasquez (190-1994, college: Union, TN) chipped in 17 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was Canadian forward Joe Davis (196, college: TRU) with 33 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds. Warriors' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Bellarine moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Pakenham.
Big V top team - Devils (16-5) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed sixth ranked Warriors (11-11) in Pakenham 98-79. Forward Adetomi Ayilara (208-1998, college: Cloud County) notched a double-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and Myles Thomas supported him with 29 points. Even 28 points and 6 rebounds by Canadian forward Joe Davis (196, college: TRU) did not help to save the game for Pakenham. Warriors' coach tested ten players seeing no chance for a win. Wyndham maintains first position with 16-5 record. Pakenham at the other side dropped to the seventh place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Bellarine.
A very close game took place in Melbourne between Melbourne Uni and Jets. Seventh ranked Melbourne Uni (12-10) got a very close home victory over 9th ranked Jets (9-13). Melbourne Uni managed to escape with a 3-point win 108-105 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Jets. The best player for the winners was Ricardo Time who scored 26 points and 9 rebounds. Melbourne Uni's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was Ray Mitchell who recorded 21 points and 5 rebounds. Melbourne Uni have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place. Loser Jets keeps the ninth position with 13 games lost.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 18: Melbourne Uni destroyed Blackburn on the opponent's court 110-77. Camberwell unfortunately lost to Sunbury in a home game 90-100. Shepparton managed to beat Hume City on the road 84-76. McKinnon crushed Western PS on its own court 111-81. Hume City beat Camberwell in Tullamarine 107-97. Blackburn was destroyed by Keysborough at home 77-118.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 24 points and 7 rebounds by Joel Rimes of Melbourne Uni.




Bellarine - Pakenham 99-96

Rather expected game when 10th ranked Vikings (5-17) were crushed at home by seventh ranked Melbourne Uni (12-10) 110-77 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was American guard Ricardo Time (188, college: Idaho Coll.) who scored 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Joel Rimes (196) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds. Five Melbourne Uni players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Kortland Martin (180, college: FHU) who recorded 30 points and his fellow American import Anthony Kimble (196-1987, college: GSU) added 12 points and 16 rebounds respectively. Melbourne Uni have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place. Blackburn lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with 17 games lost. They share it with Camberwell.

Rather predictable result in Melbourne where ninth ranked Jets (9-13) defeated 11th ranked Camberwell (5-17) 100-90 on Saturday. Sunbury forced 20 Camberwell turnovers. The best player for the winners was American guard Ray Mitchell (201-1989, college: CS Stanislaus) who scored 27 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. Guard Nathan Marshall chipped in 22 points and 6 rebounds. Mitchell is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Jackson Dean who recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds and Ben Crowe added 23 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sunbury maintains ninth position with 9-13 record. Camberwell lost third consecutive game. We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Tullamarine where one of their biggest challengers Hume City Broncos (14-8) were defeated by fifth ranked Gators (13-8) 84-76 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was American Devin Thomas (203-1996, college: Indiana St., agency: One Motive Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 15 rebounds. Canadian swingman Jayden Coke (199, college: Academy of Art) chipped in 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was New Zealand Zach Mckenzie (-2002) who recorded 18 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Scott Stone (193-1995, college: St.Cloud St.) added 12 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists respectively. Four Hume City players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gators have an impressive five-game winning streak. Shepparton maintains fifth position with 13-8 record. Loser Hume City Broncos keeps the fourth place with eight games lost.

Everything went according to plan in McKinnon where second ranked Cougars (16-6) outscored bottom-ranked Steelers (4-18) 111-81 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was American forward Steve Wooten Jr (198-1998, college: Bethesda) who scored 26 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. The other American import guard Adam Anderson (193, college: St.Rose, NY) chipped in 31 points. Five Cougars players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was naturalized British forward Paul Brotherson (197-1989, college: MSU Denver) who recorded 17 points and 5 rebounds and Liam Ingram added 12 points and 8 rebounds respectively. There was no surprise in Melbourne where 11th ranked Camberwell (5-17) was defeated by fourth ranked Hume City Broncos (14-8) 107-97 on Sunday. Hume City made 21-of-23 free shots (91.3 percent) during the game. Hume City outrebounded Camberwell 38-25 including 26 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Hume City made 10 blocks. Keysborough dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Vikings's 32. Keysborough outrebounded Blackburn 60-30 including a 45-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. Keysborough looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. The best player for the winners was point guard Anthony Williams (178-1995, college: Clark Atlanta) who scored 37 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 5 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). Forward Gerrard Newby (196-1995, college: Union, KY) chipped in a double-double by scoring 27 points and 13 rebounds. Worth to mention Williams played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Four Cougars players scored in double figures.
