Big V Round 13 (Regular Season): Camberwell edge Hume City by three points

The most exciting game of round 13 in the Big V took place in Melbourne. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of much higher ranked Hume City Broncos (13-3) to ninth ranked Camberwell (6-9) 89-86 on Saturday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Hume City Broncos. Camberwell forced 19 Hume City turnovers. Strangely Hume City outrebounded Camberwell 55-39 including a 25-12 advantage in offensive rebounds. American guard Sean Conway (196-2001, college: St.John's, agency: Warren Sports International) fired a double-double by scoring 30 points, 17 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winners. His fellow American import power forward Michael Reeves (205-2000, college: Dillard, agency: Warren Sports International) chipped in 19 points. American forward Kavione Green (195, college: Bloomfield, agency: Dominion Sports Group) produced 33 points (!!!), 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals for lost side. Camberwell have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to eighth place. Hume City at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. Camberwell are looking forward to face higher ranked Shepparton (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hume City will play against Blackburn (#12) and is hoping to win this game.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Tullamarine. Second ranked Hume City Broncos faced 4th placed Redbacks. Host Hume City Broncos (13-3) smashed guests from (10-7) 118-86. Worth to mention a great performance of New Zealand Zach Mckenzie (-2002) who helped to win the game recording 28 points and 9 rebounds. Keenan Gorski contributed with 20 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. French guard Charles Gurgey (190-1995) answered with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 rebounds for RMIT. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Hume City Broncos have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 13-3 record having just three points less than leader Keysborough. RMIT at the other side keeps the fourth position with seven games lost. Hume City will play against bottom-ranked Blackburn (#12) in Melbourne in the next round and are hoping to win another game. RMIT will play at home against Wyndham (#11) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Leader Cougars delivered the fifteenth victory on Saturday night. This time they beat 5th ranked Warriors (9-7) 107-93 in Pakenham. Anthony Williams stepped up with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 assists (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners. Cougars' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Cody Fredrickson responded with 30 points and 6 rebounds. Cougars (15-2) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Keysborough maintains first place. Loser Warriors keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. Keysborough will meet at home Sunbury (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Pakenham will play against Sunbury (#9) and hope to secure a win.

Other games of round 13 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Shepparton defeated Bellarine in a road game 78-75. Sunbury smashed Blackburn at home 98-78. Melbourne Uni won against Wyndham on the opponent's court 106-98. Melbourne Uni unfortunately lost to Keysborough in a home game 81-97.

There was no surprise in Bellarine where 10th ranked Storm (5-12) was edged by sixth ranked Gators (9-8) 78-75 on Saturday. The game was dominated by American players. Forward Ryan Batte (198-1999, college: Thomas More) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and forward Bryce Brown (203, college: Lindsey Wilson) chipped in 6 points and 14 rebounds. At the losing side power forward Kerry Richardson (202-1999, college: Morehouse, agency: Elevate Sports Alliance) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds and guard Malik McKinney (190, college: West Liberty) scored 21 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Shepparton maintains sixth place with 9-8 record. Loser Storm keeps the tenth position with 12 games lost. Shepparton will meet at home Camberwell (#8) in the next round. American point guard Anthony Williams (178-1995, college: Clark Atlanta) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 assists (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners and his fellow American import forward Gerrard Newby (196-1995, college: Union, KY) chipped in 26 points and 11 rebounds. Williams is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Cougars' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. No shocking result in a game in Sunbury where eighth ranked Jets (6-10) smashed bottom-ranked Vikings (2-15) 98-78 on Saturday. Sunbury made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Sunbury outrebounded Blackburn 47-34 including a 38-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward BJ Gladden (198-1995, college: Georgia South) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and forward Cooper Kirkman (-2001) chipped in 15 points and 11 rebounds. At the losing side naturalized Croatian forward Ivan Platenik (201-1983, college: Alaska-Anch.) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds and American guard James Legan (190-1987, college: ECU) scored 17 points and 8 rebounds. Five Sunbury and four Blackburn players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Jets. British power forward Oliver Stanley (196-1994) stepped up and scored 24 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and forward Joel Rimes (196) chipped in 16 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Melbourne Uni's coach Joshua Turton allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side American center Jalen Rosemond (203-2000, college: Molloy) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 15 rebounds and guard Mayuol Makuac (-2000) scored 28 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Melbourne Uni maintains seventh place with 8-9 record. Wyndham lost their fourth game in a row.
