Big V Round 15 (Regular Season): Shepparton defeat Hume City in the closest game of the week

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in Big V. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 15 in the Big V took place in Tullamarine. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of second-best Hume City Broncos (15-4) to sixth ranked Gators (10-9) 90-89 on Saturday evening. Strangely Hume City outrebounded Shepparton 47-34 including 16 on the offensive glass. It was a great evening for American forward Ryan Batte (198-1999, college: Thomas More) who led his team to a victory scoring 32 points and 4 assists. His fellow American import forward Bryce Brown (203, college: Lindsey Wilson) helped adding 22 points and 11 rebounds. The best for the losing side was New Zealand Zach Mckenzie (-2002) with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 19 rebounds. Hume City Broncos' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Shepparton maintains sixth place with 10-9 record, which they share with Melbourne Uni. Hume City at the other side keeps the second position with four games lost. Shepparton is looking forward to face Melbourne Uni (#7) on the road in the next round. Hume City will play against Pakenham (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Host Cougars were defeated by Melbourne Uni in a tough game in McKinnon 78-85. It was an exceptional evening for forward Joel Rimes (196) who led the winners and scored 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Oliver Stanley accounted for 15 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Shaquille Maharaj (196-1997, college: Camosun) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 16 rebounds for McKinnon in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Melbourne Uni have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Shepparton. McKinnon at the other side keeps the third position with six games lost. Melbourne Uni will play against Shepparton (#6) at home in the next round. McKinnon will play against the league's leader Keysborough and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game between Top Four teams took place in . 4th placed host Redbacks (11-9) were smashed by third ranked Cougars (12-6) 109-90. The best player for the winners was Shaquille Maharaj who had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Matt Spencer who recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points, 6 rebounds and 15 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. McKinnon maintains third place with 12-6 record having eight points less than leader Keysborough. Loser Redbacks dropped to the fifth position with nine games lost. McKinnon will meet at home league's leader Keysborough in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. RMIT will play against Shepparton (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 15: RMIT won against Bellarine on the opponent's court 99-85. Keysborough outscored Blackburn in a home game 97-73. Camberwell recorded a loss to Sunbury on the road 102-99. Wyndham was defeated by Pakenham on its own court 90-105. Hume City beat Bellarine in Tullamarine 95-88. Camberwell was destroyed by Keysborough at home 79-113.

RMIT dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Storm's 42. The best player for the winners was Louse Agon who scored 20 points and 8 rebounds. French guard Charles Gurgey (190-1995) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. Four Redbacks players scored in double figures. Redbacks' coach Vincenzo Rovetto used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Malik McKinney (190, college: West Liberty) who recorded 39 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds (went 13 for 13 at the free throw line !!!) and power forward Liam McInerney (206-1990, college: Stetson) added 6 points and 16 rebounds respectively. Despite that victory RMIT went down to fifth position due to points difference. Loser Storm keeps the tenth place with 14 games lost. RMIT will meet Shepparton (#6) on the road in the next round. His fellow American import point guard Anthony Williams (178-1995, college: Clark Atlanta) chipped in 17 points and 8 assists. Williams is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard James Legan (190-1987, college: ECU) who recorded a double-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and naturalized Croatian forward Ivan Platenik (201-1983, college: Alaska-Anch.) added 16 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Four Blackburn players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Forward Cooper Kirkman (-2001) chipped in 20 points and 8 rebounds. Four Jets players scored in double figures.
