The Regular Season in Big V just ended. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Cougars (19-3) in Tullamarine on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by second ranked Hume City Broncos (16-5) 107-98. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Cougars. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Hume City made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. American forward Kavione Green (195, college: Bloomfield, agency: Dominion Sports Group) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. New Zealand Zach Mckenzie (-2002) contributed with 26 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. American forward Gerrard Newby (196-1995, college: Union, KY) answered with 36 points (!!!) for Keysborough. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hume City maintains second place with 16-5 record having four points less than leader Keysborough. Keysborough at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost.
Bottom-ranked Vikings managed to get the second consecutive victory. This time they edged fourth-ranked Melbourne Uni 104-102. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Melbourne Uni. Naturalized Croatian forward Ivan Platenik (201-1983, college: Alaska-Anch.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 40 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds (on 19-of-24 shooting from the field) for the winners and James Legan chipped in 28 points and 11 rebounds. American guard Jamir Moultrie (185-1997, college: Canisius) responded with 24 points. Blackburn maintains twelfth place with 5-17 record. Melbourne Uni at the other side dropped to the fifth position with ten games lost. They share it with RMIT.
The game in Shepparton was also quite interesting. Third ranked Cougars (13-7) played at the court of 7th ranked Gators (11-11). Cougars defeated Gators 82-71 on Saturday. Jordan Geer nailed 23 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Ryan Batte came up with 26 points and 9 rebounds for Shepparton in the defeat. McKinnon maintains third place with 13-7 record having eight points less than leader Keysborough. Loser Gators keeps the seventh position with 11 games lost.
There were no big surprises in other games of round 17: Wyndham was beaten by Camberwell on the road 89-78. Pakenham lost to RMIT on its own court 89-103. Bellarine managed to outperform Sunbury in a road game 98-91.
