Big V Round 1 (Regular Season): Storm beat Devils

The Regular Season in Big V just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Storm smashed Devils in Bellarine 109-89. Bellarine made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game, while Wyndham only scored five points from the stripe. Bellarine looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American power forward Jayden Brown (203, college: CCSU, agency: Elevate Sports Alliance) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and guard Max Kos chipped in 33 points (!!!). Storm's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American forward Malik Miller (205-1995, college: FDU) responded with 38 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds. Devils will play next round against strong McKinnon trying to get back on the winning streak. Storm will try to continue on its current victory against RMIT on the road.

Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Pacers will play against Hume City in Tullamarine in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Warriors will play on the road against Camberwell in Melbourne and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Oliver Stanley produced 14 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. McKinnon will meet Wyndham in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Melbourne Uni will play against Sunbury and hope to win that game.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 1: RMIT won against Warrandyte on the opponent's court 93-90. Winless Camberwell lost to undefeated Hume City in a home game 87-93. Bottom-ranked Warrandyte managed to beat Sunbury on the road 97-86.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 33 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds by Milan Savic of Sunbury.



Gippsland Utd - Pakenham 86-67

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Warriors on the court of Pacers. Visitors were rolled over by Pacers 86-67. Rather expected game in Melbourne where Venom was edged by Redbacks 93-90 on Saturday. RMIT made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. RMIT outrebounded Warrandyte 52-31 including a 42-28 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward Devon Vanderheydt (198, college: Lewis) fired a double-double by scoring 28 points, 18 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Guard Daniel Steen (196, college: Lourdes) chipped in a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds. American guard Lanyc Shuler (185, college: West Liberty) produced 45 points (!!!), 9 assists and 5 steals and the other American import guard James Legan (190-1987, college: ECU) added 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Redbacks will meet at home Bellarine in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. But Camberwell was not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Tullamarine 93-87 on Sunday night. Hume City made 27-of-33 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Guard Robbie Heath (190-1998, college: Pepperdine) fired 38 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds for the winners. Forward Lachlan Wood (-2002) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Four Sunbury players scored in double figures. Venom will meet at home Hume City in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
